July 16, 2004

The finalists have been announced and voting began this morning. You can vote in this thread. Voting will last through next Friday at midnight so get all your friends to vote for you. As a reminder, first place is a copy of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and a full size Onimusha 3 poster and 2nd prize is also a copy of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Enjoy and good luck to the finalists!

I put in my preorder for Fable June of 2003. The only person at our EB who had it earlier than myself was Man U (the Asst. Mgr) who ordered it in April 2003. To hear that this game will be out in September is a great thing and to hear that they are giving away a sweet DVD as a bonus is even sweeter. There is only one thing that is sweeter than that and that is the fact that I have had my DVD for a few days already! Man U got a shipment with 2 DVDs in it and we were the first to preorder so we scored them. I will give you a rundown on the content a little later.

So like I said, September 14th is the magic day for Fable and you can bet I will be playing this one well into the night when I get it home.

I don’t mind it when people have confidence. In fact I would even go so far as to say that confidence is a great thing to have. Now let me say that I think Steve Ballmer has too much confidence. In a press conferece on Tuesday he said “I bet we can take Sony next generation. I am betting we can take Sony in the next generation”. I want competition just as much as the next guy because it benefits you and I, but Microsoft has a long way to go to take anyone. Only time will tell what is going to happen in this console war and I would much rather have a 3 way tie than a single dominant player such as we have now.

I ran across this yesterday and didn’t post it because I was too busy trying to figure out why the power was out at my office. Apparently an accident knocked out power for the whole block. Well it looks like the $150 that online retailers were speculating was just a little low as the retail price is going to be at the $180 mark which is far too rich for my blood. It was a stretch for me to pick up an SP for $100. It took an NES styled one to make me take the plunge. While I will admit that the DS has some sweet games and awesome concepts, it is way too pricey. You can pick up your DS on November 11th. Just 2 short days after people start playing Halo 2.

Doom 3 Goes Gold

July 14, 2004

Doom 3 has officially beat HL2 to market with the announcement that it is done and off for duplication. The announcement was mentioned by my new favorite columnist, Chris Morris, in his game over column for today as he discusses the impact this release will have on gaming and more specifically the gaming industry. See you August 3rd, 4th, or 5th or whenever it finally hits retail shelves.

In less thrilling news, the Xbox version of Doom 3 is not done and could possibly not see the light of day until 2005. id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead made the comment to Chris Morris about the state of the Xbox port.
