PS3 News

May 8, 2006

I found this on IGN and other sites as the news keeps pouring in from E3, things are just crazy with info. But this just caught my attention. As they presented the new PS3 content, they also released new info on the price. For the 20 gig system it will run at $499 and the 60 gig system it will run at $599. As for the release date, it is said that the system will be out at the end of 2006 with two million units shipping.

To be quite honest, I don’t know what to think about the price. But with all the info that is presented concerning the new PS3, I still am not jumping on the bandwagon.

Here is Vivendi’s lineup for E3 2006:

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (PC) — release date to follow shortly
Scarface: The World Is Yours (PS2, Xbox, PC) — Q3 2006
Eragon (PS2, Xbox 360, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, DS, PC) — Q3 2006
World in Conflict (PC) — Q2 2007
F.E.A.R. 360 (Xbox 360) — Q4 2006
F.E.A.R. Extraction Point (PC) — October 2006
Timeshift (Xbox 360, PC) — September 2006
Caesar IV (PC) — September 2006
50 Cent: Bulletproof G-Unit Edition (PSP) — August 2006
Miami Vice: The Game (PSP) — July 2006

Someone please tell me how 50 Cent: Bulletproof sold well enough to get a sequel?

It appears the boomerang may have been tossed and failed to return as designed. During the Sony press conference today while dev kits were being demoed a pair of silver Dual Shock looking controllers were used to play games. 1 of these controllers was wired and one was wireless. This wireless controller is also motion sensing with “six degrees of freedom” with no external sensor required. It will come standard with the PS3.

The hot topic for today is the news that Sony is releasing the PS3 on November 17th. The price you ask? $499 for the 20GB version and $599 for the 60GB version. I think it is time we all start saving our pennies.

Sony expects to ship 2 million units in the first month, 4 million by years end, and 6 million by the end of the fiscal year in March 2007. If Sony doesn’t attempt as aggressive a launch as Microsoft they just might be able to hit those numbers, but it shall remain to be seen.
