January 2007

Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS will be released this year, according to SquareEnix president Yoichi Wada. Don’t get to excited, because unless you speak/read fluent Japanese, you’ll have to wait for 2008, when the English version is released.

Out of Town

January 12, 2007

I’ll be out of town on business Monday and Tuesday of next week with limited internet access. I’ll try and keep up with posting news though.

The rumors that Popcap’s Heavy Weapon was coming to XLA turned out to be true. I just got an email going over some of the game’s features:

Three game modes: Mission, Survival Arms Race and War Party, and Boss Rush

Up to 4 players in Survival Mode locally or over Live

Co-op Mission mode

Six upgradeable secret weapons

Nineteen missions with nukes, mega-lasers and more

Ability to voice-chat with friends while battling together online

Online leaderboards to track mission results

Enhanced sound effects and original score

Amazing enemy landscapes and graphics

Expanded mayhem with full high-definition widescreen support
The game will be available on Wednesday, Jan. 17 @ 9am GMT (1 am PST) for 800 MS Points.

I recently had to take advantage of the extended warranty that the 360 had to offer. I got the news here on the Big Orange Machine and an email with the number to customer service. In about 15 minutes they had my serial number down and a box shipping over to my house so they can repair problems I have had with reading discs.

I hate, and I mean hate customer service with a passion, but this was so easy I recommend doing it to anyone still in the time frame having the slightest problem with their box. I will however be out of an Xbox for three weeks, as such I’ll Game Fly Final Fantasy XI and give it a run.

Beckham shreds.

I’m filing this under the category of highly unlikely, but Evil Avatar is reporting they have a nice chunk of sources that are confirming this. Both of my Capcom contacts are out of the office, but I doubt that changes their response until a big announcement is made.

That being said, what if Microsoft DID buy Capcom? Would their presence in the Japanese market shift? Just what would happen to the scene of the gaming industry if Microsoft snared another huge 3rd party studio like this?

If we get any type of official confirmation on this, I’ll be sure to let you guys know.
