Karaoke games have always been for parties and large groups, and SingStar Pop has embraced this. Sony’s London studio didn’t go the same route as Karaoke Revolution: American Idol and put in a rich single-player mode; instead they tweaked the multiplayer to make it as good as possible.

This game plays almost exactly like Sony’s last release, SingStar Rocks! , but this was intentional. The two games interact, as discs can be swapped out in the middle of a game to allow a player to use the other set of songs if they’d like. This works well, and the load times are minimal.

SingStar Pop‘s song list is much friendlier to younger people and lower voices, with more songs like Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out and only a few tunes from Britney Spears and Cyndi Lauper thrown in.

For each song that has one, Sony London uses its music video behind the notes. It’s a great novelty at first, and the video quality isn’t horrible, but for those who get annoyed, the system supports the EyeToy, so you can watch yourself. You know, or point it at a blank wall.

The system is much friendlier to newbies and marginally talented singers at the lower difficulties than the Karaoke Revolution games, which is great. With effort, even mediocre crooners can occasionally attain the duckie symbol of A

New HotBrain Trailer

April 12, 2007

Midway sent over a new trailer for their upcoming PSP title, HotBrain.

While unconfirmed, the online retail frontends for EBGames and GameStop have listed Namco Bandai’s Time Crisis 4 as a future release for the PlayStation 3 this November 2007. According to the listing, the game will ship with a PS3 version of Namco’s Guncom lightgun, which of course makes a good deal of sense. As said, Namco Bandai has not issued any sort of official announcement as of yet, though these listings are usually fed to retailers early on, but still take this with some salt. $89.99 worth, to be precise. Thanks Pro-G for the heads up.

Reports are coming in that the final version of the Opera browser for the Wii is now available in the US and the UK. No reports if it’s available worldwide or just in these 2 regions. Remember that the browser is free via the Shop Channel as long as you download it before June of this year. Make sure you delete the beta before installing the final version and be warned that it is a hefty download.

The first 3 song packs for Guitar Hero 2 are now available on the Live Marketplace. Each song pack contains 3 songs and will set you back 500 MS Points. Here are the songs included in each set:

Guitar Hero Track Pack 1
Bark at the Moon
Hey You
Ace of Spades

Guitar Hero Track Pack 2
Killer Queen
Take it Off
Frankenstein

Guitar Hero Track Pack 3
Higher Ground
Infected
Stellar

The price might be a little steep, but I’m glad to see the DLC hit Live this early on. I know Red Octane is sitting on a proverbial gold mine with the ability to release as many songs as they like and at approximately $2/song that works out to a lot of added revenue.
