In this Labor Day edition, we look at two solid titles that use path-drawing as a mechanic: DrawRace 2 and Crimson Steam Pirates.
DrawRace 2 (iPhone, iPad): For those who missed the original DrawRace, the concept is deviously simple: it’s a racing game, but rather than steering, you draw the path around the track beforehand and watch the car follow it. You need to slow down your drawn path to get around curves, though you don’t need to worry about collision physics, as the game takes the TrackMania approach of not acknowledging other cars at all. Shawn Vermette: L.A. Noire first hit my attention just a couple months before release while watching some of the trailers for it. Despite my limited knowledge ahead of time, or maybe because of it, Noire quickly became one of my favorite games of the year. The investigations, interrogations, story, voice, acting, and scenery all combine to make this a game that feels almost custom made for me. READ MORE

Andrew Passafiume: I think the biggest disappointment for me has been Capcom’s handling of the Mega Man Legends 3 cancellation. The actual cancellation of the project itself is a bit of a letdown, but it was simply a PR nightmare for them. It’s one thing to cancel a project that fans have been eagerly anticipating due to disappointing sales of the 3DS, it’s another to outright blame the fans for the termination of the project. I still trust Capcom, but this entire fiasco didn’t win them any new fans. READ MORE
