While next week’s 2007 edition of the annual Game Developers Conference has never been a showpiece for Nintendo, especially in terms of consumer information, news from Game|Life’s Chris Kohler indicates that this year maybe even more so thanks to an impending stock trade.

According to the report, the major stock deal has resulted in a gag order, preventing Nintendo attendees from revealing anything that could be constituted as new information. The event is expected to see a number Nintendo personalities, including scheduled presentations by Eiji Aonuma and Koji Kondo, as well as a keynote address by Shigeru Miyamoto on Thursday morning.

I’ll be on hand at the event, and will be sure to speak up as things happen.

Weekend Warrior

March 2, 2007

As I write this, my mind is racing as I prepare for the maelstrom that will be next week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. It also does not help that I have managed to incur the wrath of a sinus infection, which makes the idea of plane travel next week all the more delightful.

Regardless, I will be taking laptop in hand and covering the event for both you, as well as Gamasutra (since they pay my bills after all) as I descend upon the annual event on Tuesday afternoon. Expect lots of pictures, impressions, and general drunken meanderings from me over the next week. It’ll be a hoot!

Anyway, as I prepare, I’ve also been plodding through Wario: Master of Disguise for the Nintendo DS. Trust me, you’re going to want to read my review before you run out and but this game on the 7th. So, me aside, what are you playing this weekend?

So wait, this is what it has come down to, announcing the debut of a trailer for a game a month in advance. We really will get excited for anything these days, won’t we?

Anyway, Rockstar announced the launch of the teaser site for its upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, which is expected to launch for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this October. In addition, the company also announced that a trailer for the game will be release on March 29. Excited yet?

How about now?

Ubisoft has announced that the a Western themed first-person shooter Call of Juarez, previously announced for the PC, will also be released for the Xbox 360 this summer. Developed by Techland in Poland, Call of Juarez will feature multiplayer modes and a Wild West single-player campaign. Personally, I’m excited to be able to play this game on a platform that won’t grind to a screeching halt upon install.

Don’t look now, but there is yet another MMO in development. Atlanta, Georgia based Hi-Rez Studios has announced that it is developing a “a mission-based action MMORPG using Unreal Engine 3, set in a near future world of espionage and tactical covert operations.”

Called Global Agenda, the game has apparently been in development for over two years, and features “fast-paced ranged and close combat, RPG-style character progression, solo or cooperative team missions, and competitive play on a massive scale between player-created agencies.” Global Agenda is set on 22nd century Earth amidst an “invisible war” fought between elite agents where “technology is a race, knowledge is power, and everyone has an agenda.”

“We want to provide players an engaging, next-generation tactical combat experience, but within the context of a single, evolving, massively multiplayer online world where actions have consequences”, says Todd Harris, COO of Hi-Rez Studios. “Player-created agencies, with the right strategy and skill, can have a very real impact on each other and the world itself.”
