Ubisoft officials have announced that the upcoming Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 will feature the sound stylings of composer and music producer Tom Salta, who also worked on the previous game.

GRAW 2 is being developed by the same teams that created the original in Ubisoft’s Paris and Red Storm Studios, with developer GRIN once again developing the specific version for Windows PC. The game is scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PSP, and PC in March, with the PS3 version scheduled for June.

According to Ubisoft, for GRAW 2 Salta wrote a “more aggressive and expressive original score to enhance the game’s intensive action and memorable, dramatic scenes, with only a few select motif references taken from the anthemic musical score of the first outing.” The multiplayer demo was just released, so pick it up on Xbox Live and let us know if he succeeded.

During last week’s Comic Con in New York, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII branded CG film Advent Children walked home with the award for Best Anime Feature at the event’s inaugural American Anime awards celebration. The best? Really?

“Thanks to the dedication of our loyal fans, Final Fantasy VII has come to enjoy 10 years of undying popularity,” said the film’s producer Shinji Hashimoto. “Final Fantasy VII<: Advent Children, a direct sequel in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, brings the series into the next century with today’s state-of-the-art CG, and we’re sure fans enjoyed seeing old friends brought to new life on the screen.”

He added: “As creators, we are very proud of the finished product, and as developers, it is truly an honor to receive an award of this magnitude. We hope for your continued support as the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII delves deeper into this exciting world. Thank you.”

SSX Blur Shreds Onto Wii

February 27, 2007

Electronic Arts has shipped the Wii exclusive SSX Blur to retail. The game features wacky Wii style controls for all the tilty, waggly controls you can handle across 12 downhill tracks. And for those of you locked away in Europe, your version of the game ships March 9. We’re deep into the trick-heavy game now, and will have a review shortly.

Being press, we are often gifted with various oddities from publishers and other game companies in an effort to promote their latest products. One of the most avid supplier of this so-called swag is Nintendo, who often fills boxes with odds and ends with each game sent our way.

Today a box proclaiming to contain the company’s upcoming Wario: Master of Disguise arrived at our office, though upon opening the package, the game was nowhere to be found. All that we saw was the dapper gentleman in a purple mask. Now if you’ll excuse me, this mysterious guest is taking me out to lunch.

Konami has shipped Dance Dance Revolution Universe for the Xbox 360, promising more than 70 songs, new megamixes, a new Relay Mode, downloadable songs, and online head-to-head competitions via Xbox Live. The package also includes a new dance mat, which may help justify the hefty $79.99 price tag. Though, truth be told, Konami’s plastic pads are not very good, and if this one stays the course, you may be advised to wait for a third party pad and then pick up the game only pack, which ships in March.

The song list includes tracks from top pop artists such as Depeche Mode, Chris Brown, Kylie Minogue, Jamiroqui and New Order as well as exclusive tracks from electronic music luminaries Steve Porter, Chris Fortier, Jondi & Spesh, skylab2000, GRIDLOK and Audio Magnetics (Bill Hamel). Further expanding the game’s music library is the ability to download songs to be released by Konami exclusively for DDR Universe. Additionally, the game’s online mode will allow DDR players to compete head-to-head against other players as well as the ability to upload new dance routines for others to try out via Xbox Live.
