Following up on the phenomenal success of THQ’s Relic developed Dawn of War real-time strategy PC game series and its two expansions, THQ officials have now confirmed the development of of a new MMORPG based on the franchise’s source material, none other than Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 tabletop war game.
The MMO is currently in development at THQ’s Texas based Vigil Games studio. Of course, it remains to be seen how a MMO such as this, even with the considerable name recognition as Warhammer 40,000, will match up against Blizzard’s MMO powerhouse World of Warcraft.
The game is just one of what will certainly be many upcoming games based on the property, as THQ has extended its exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Games Workshop through 2013, covering not only the PC, but consoles and handhelds as well. The agreement also now includes Games Workshop’s Gorkamorka and Necromunda properties.
“The Warhammer 40,000 universe provides a richness of worlds, characters and stories and level of depth that translates perfectly to interactive experiences across multiple genres and systems,” commented Kelly Flock, executive vice president of worldwide publishing, THQ. “We see a lot of opportunity to build new and different games based on Games Workshop’s fantastic property in the coming years, beginning with our newly announced MMO.”
It seems that Battlefield 2142 was just released yesterday, but EA is hard at work on another entry in the series. Battlefield: Bad Company will feature the aspects we love about the BF series, mixing some Black into the game. The teaser is quite funny, I suggest downloading it here.
Only one year after release, Konami has announced that it is shutting down the online servers for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, with the service slated to go silent on April 2 in North America. The fates of the European servers are unknown, but it would be ridiculous to terminate that as well (since Subsistence was only released last October).
You still have a month to to try out Metal Gear Solid 3 online, so those of you still on the fence are encouraged to try it out, if only for a short while. Of course, there is always Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops for the PSP.
After the success of the original Battle for Middle Earth RTS game, it was obvious that EA would make a sequel. Many people anticipated that it would be the same thing as the previous game, something that has sadly been associated with the EA brand name. Thankfully, those people were wrong. BFME II is not only an excellent sequel but a greatly enjoyable RTS based on the Lord of the Rings franchise.
Though it is undeniable that the Lord of the Rings books and movies were some of the best pieces of literature and film making, it was getting tiresome to play as the Fellowship of the Ring. In BFME II, players get to play as the other heroes/villains who lived during the War of the Ring. The game centers around these people and hardly on the Fellowship. In fact, they are only featured in one level during the Evil campaign, where you must kill all of them. Some characters, like SmA
