Best of E3 10: Shawn’s picks

June 24, 2010

What impressed us at E3? We each picked our favorites. Here are Shawn Vermette’s picks.

Nintendo 3DS

The 3DS blew everyone at the show away, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it when it finally comes out here. The tech sounds great and the games announced for it make me even more excited. Nintendo gave every exactly what they were hoping for and more with this system.

Civilization V

Civilization is my all-time favorite video game series, and after hearing and reading about the changes made to the standard formula in this next installation, I was a little worried. Now that E3 has come and gone though, I simply cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Fable 3

Fable is one of the newer RPG series I’ve played, and Fable II sucked me in. Suffice it to say, I’m extremely interested in Fable III after seeing what I did at E3.

Diablo 3

What can you say about Diablo 3? Any PC gamer worth the title is looking forward the new Diablo, and I can’t wait for it to come out. Hurry up Blizzard!

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country was one of my favorite platforming games of my childhood. It was hard, fun, and extremely well made. I can’t wait to play this new one. This was possibly the best surprise of the show.

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout 3 was everything I had hoped it would be, thus, I am obviously excited because of everything we saw at E3 about Fallout: New Vegas

Lego Star Wars III: Clone Wars

The Lego games are great fun, especially when you can play them co-op with family. I’ve gotten over 60 hours of enjoyment out of Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and I look forward to getting just as much out of the next Lego Star Wars game.

Paper Mario 3D

The Paper Mario games are some of the best Mario games Nintendo has ever made. So it should come as no surprise that I can’t wait to see what kind of crazy gameplay Nintendo can come up with from a 3DS Paper Mario.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

I loved the previous Professor Layton games, and while I’m not sure how many more original puzzles they can come up with, I look forward to them all the same.

Portal 2

It’s Portal. The first was one of my favorite games ever, so obviously the next one was high on my list. The news that it will be a full-sized game and feature the same trademark humor and gameplay as before just brought it to the top of my list for 2011.
