Square Enix revealed a good amount of information on their biggest franchises today during a press event they held in Japan today. The most notable of which was the announcement that they will be making a direct sequel of Final Fantasy XIII a la Final Fantasy X, called Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Fans of both strategy and tactical games are most likely aware, but this March, Creative Assembly is releasing a new entry in their Total War series, Shogun 2. Not only is Mass Effect 2 heading to the PlayStation3 on January 18th, but it’ll be available day and date on PSN. No word has been given on PSN pricing, but this is good news for those who prefer to download games, rather than buying discs. READ MORE

Cryptic Studios announced today that their MMO, Champions Online, will be going free-to-play on January 25th, 2011. At that point, players will be able to access the standard game for free, with ‘Adventure Packs’ available to expand your game for a charge. If you’d rather not pay per pack, but want the added content, you can continue to subscribe to the game for $14.99 per month. A number of new details and gameplay videos came to light during Japan’s Nintendo World 2011 this weekend, and on top of the list is the official launch lineup for the 3DS, in Japan at least.

In addition, the all-important battery life question has been answered, with Nintendo stating that the 3DS’s battery will last 5-8 hours while playing regular DS games and 3-5 hours when playing 3D games.
