Wii already profitable for Nintendo

November 29, 2006

In North America, over 600,000 Nintendo Wiis were sold, which is pretty much all of the consoles. This translated to about $190 Million of profit for Nintendo.

You know, this is rather funny. Most consoles don’t turn profitable until late in their lifetime or not at all (see Xbox with minus $4 Billion), and here is Nintendo with the Wii, which has already generated almost $200 Million at launch only in North America. Insanity.

Editor’s Note: I am researching the $190M figure as it was sourced from a Hungarian gaming site.

Update: It appears that $190M of profit figure factors in consoles, accessories, and games. So it’s safe to say that all $190M is NOT all going to Nintendo.
