In the first bit of news coming out of the GDC this year Microsoft announced a new 512MB Memory Unit which is slated to be available worldwide on April 3, 2007 with a retail price of $49.99. To help support that cost it will come preloaded with the hit XBLA title Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. The 64MB Memory Unit will drop from $39.99 to $29.99.
In addition to backing up game saves and other date, the expanded Memory Unit will allow gamers to download exclusive content from the 45,000 Xbox 360 kiosks at retail stores worldwide.
To kick this off, Microsoft also announced that they had bumped up the size limit of XBLA games from 50MB to 150MB. The change is in an effort to “provide developers with an environment that allows for the creation of cost-efficient games and that nurtures an artistic and creative approach to game development.”
