Precise-but-speedy platforming seems to be a thing now in games lately. With successes like the N series or Super Meat Boy, many others have tried to achieve something with their own games. To some degree, Rush Bros. seems to have grasped the concept fairly well adding in its own unique gameplay elements and some pretty visuals to the mix. The original Dead Space came out of nowhere and surprised almost everyone with its careful blend of third-person shooter gameplay and atmospheric horror. After a fantastic sequel and some interesting spin-offs, Visceral Games returns with Dead Space 3, the supposed last game in a trilogy. This time there’s a greater focus on expanding the formula from the original two games, with more open environments, a weapon crafting system and a healthy dose of side content, giving us the biggest Dead Space experience to date. Sandbox games have always been a huge reason people stick with PC gaming for so long. Exploration is a big draw, as well as a nonlinear experience. Also, experiences that push the limits of what can be considered a “game” have always been able to find a bigger niche on PC, due to lower publishing costs. READ MORE
I am not entirely sure that I really know what Antichamber is. I know it is a puzzle game, and I know it’s played from the first-person perspective. I also know that it’s one of the most frustrating games I have ever played. While most puzzle games make me feel dumb for getting stuck and then smart for finally figuring it out, Antichamber makes me feel dumb for getting stuck and then lucky for stumbling upon a solution. Defense Grid is special. It’s a tower defense game with an interesting story, likable characters and a great variety of tower, enemy and level types. There is no single best strategy, non-tutorial levels have multiple (and often wildly different) ways to succeed and the entire interface is designed to allow the player to experiment with new strategies and tower location without needing to restart the level every time something goes wrong.
