Whether towers are upgradeable (Defense Grid: The Awakening), the player participates in the battles (Sanctum, Orcs Must Die), or the game can be played for 15 minutes on a break at work (too many to mention thanks to Internet game sites), I love the genre. The team over at Arrowhead Studios has been rewarding faithful Magicka fans with regular DLC packs, from maps to equipment to a player-vs.-player arena. What made the original so fun, though, was the campaign, full of interesting set-pieces and ludicrous geek culture references, as well as the progression of finding more and better spells. READ MORE

Everything about Telltale’s Jurassic Park feels like an homage to the original film. The characters would have worked in the movie, the situations genuinely feel like examples of how a day in Jurassic Park plays out, and the story, despite having to carefully step around the story of the film, is engrossing and would have made a better sequel than JP2 did. There are a few problems, but my love for the source material and Telltale’s great treatment of it was more than enough to overcome them. READ MORE

Freebird Games’ indie title, To the Moon, is out to ask the question “what if you could go back?” Perhaps not go back in time, but go back through your memories and correct one thing in your life that takes you on a completely different journey. This is a game that asks a lot of interesting, almost philosophical questions about memories and does so in a heartfelt package. READ MORE
