I feel like I need to apologize. I wanted to enjoy Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt. I love the Borderlands 2 base game, I liked Captain Scarlett and the Badass Crater of Badassitude as narrated by Mr. Torgue might be my favorite piece of DLC released all of last year. There’s nothing like a new title from Platinum Games to make me feel like the least skilled gamer of all time and love every minute of my deserved trouncings.
Anarchy Reigns is a busy, busy game. It invokes cult classics such as MadWorld, Bayonetta and even a little God Hand. It strives to take the familiar hardcore Japanese brawler, douse it with online multiplayer and ignite it with as much chaos as possible. Anarchy, indeed. READ MORE
The Far Cry franchise has come a long way since the release of Crytek’s original back in 2004. The series has seen a shift in focus as well as developers since its debut, losing some of its luster. Far Cry 3 attempts to remedy that by maintaining the open-world element from the previous game and also bringing it back to a setting similar to the original, resulting in a lush tropical island with plenty to do and explore. It won’t be long before you realize that this is a game that does everything it can to make sure you’re having a good time. Luckily for us, it succeeds more often than not. READ MORE
A great aesthetic can go a long way.
Black Knight Sword is the latest affront to convention from Grasshopper Manufacture, and is the developer’s second collaboration with Digital Reality (the first being Sine Mora). Black Knight is a downloadable title, offering to show what Goichi Suda (Suda 51) and his cohorts can do when not struggling against budget restrictions while trying to achieve AAA status. READ MORE
With few exceptions, you don’t often see good stealth games these days. By that, I mean games that focus almost exclusively on the act of being as sneaky as possible; not games with shoehorned stealth levels or a mix of stealth and action as a focus. The Hitman franchise has always remained consistent in its approach to the genre, and after a six-year absence, Agent 47 is back again. Hitman: Absolution is a game that simultaneously attempts to update the gameplay style, while also returning to certain mechanics from older titles in the series.
While certain changes are more welcome than others, this feels like a true return of one of gaming’s premiere stealth franchises. READ MORE
