There isn’t much you can do with the shoot-‘em-up genre these days that hasn’t already been done. You usually have a character, sometimes someone in a spaceship, and other times a person who is magically able to fly and shoot projectiles. You often find yourself moving from one end of the screen to the other, shooting down enemies as they show up and doing your best to survive. Now imagine this classic concept in reverse, with you flying backwards in time instead of moving forwards. Add a musical spin on it and you have Retro/Grade, a game that is actually less of a side-scrolling shooter and more of a rhythm game. READ MORE

It’s tough to be a console JRPG in the West in this day and age. The genre just doesn’t hold the same industry clout that it did in the 16 and 32-bit eras. So, if nothing else, I commend Aksys for being one of the very few companies out there still dedicated to localizing these games into English. Record of Agarest War 2 is the company’s latest project, and the third title released in the series (all of which have made it to American shelves), and I’m happy we have the chance to play it. Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends takes the proud history of Ferrari and places control directly into your hands, as you compete in hundreds of events spread over 36 circuits. I like Frogger a lot. I played it on the 2600, I played it in arcades, and I played the awesome Windows 95 (Hasbro Interactive was good to me in the mid-’90s) version at my aunt and uncle’s house when my family computer was stuck on Windows 3.1.
